The France and the World seminar at the Mahindra Humanities Center at Harvard is proud to announce that the Algerian poet and anthropologist Habib Tengour will be presenting a talk titled “La poésie est le réel absolu” on November 4th at 5 pm on Zoom.
Habib Tengour was born in 1947 in Mostaganem, Algeria. Trained as an anthropologist and sociologist, he is the author of over fifteen books, two of which can be found in English: Crossings (The Post-Apollo Press, 2013), translated by Marilyn Hacker, and “Exile is My Trade”: The Habib Tengour Reader (Black Widow, 2012), edited and translated by Pierre Joris. The winner of the 2016 Dante European Poetry Prize, he directs the series Poems of the World, published by APIC in Algiers. He divides his time between Algiers, Algeria, and Paris, France. He is in residence this year at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. (source: poets.org)

The France and the World seminar at the Mahindra Humanities Center at Harvard is proud to announce that the Quebecois poet and novelist Nicole Brossard will be presenting a talk titled “L’horizon du fragment” on November 18th at 5 pm on Zoom.
French Canadian formalist poet and novelist Nicole Brossard was born in 1943 in Montreal. Brossard’s work explores feminism, desire, and their connection to the structure and flexibility of language. She has published over 30 works of poetry and fiction, including Notebook of Roses and Civilization and Installations, as well as pieces she edited. Brossard founded literary journals La barre du jour and La nouvelle barre du jour as well as the publishing house L’Intégrale éditrice in 1982. In addition to being a member of the Canadian national order, she has received numerous awards, among them, the Prix Athanase-David and two awards from the Governor General.
